Design Parameters:
(i) Seismic Design Requirement = 2.2 g = 2.2
(veneer dead weight)
(ii) Brick Veneer Dead Weight =
160 kg/m2 (32.8 lb/ft2) = 1.6 kN/m2 (0.232 psi)
(iii) Design Factor of Safety = 2.25
(iv) Assume a Tie Spacing of 400 mm (16")
Horizontal x 600 mm (24") Vertical
(v) Assume 4 Lateral Tie Clips per V-Tie™ (two on each leg)
Design Calculations:
Seismic Design Load = 2.2 (1.6 kN/m^2) = 3.5 kN/m2
[ = 2.2 (0.232 psi) = 0.5104 psi]

Per Tie
= (3.5 kN/m2) (0.4 m) (0.6 m)
= 0.84 kN/Tie
[= (0.5104 psi) (16”) (24”)
= 196 lbs/Tie]
Lateral Tie Clip Recommended
Design Load
= 0.73 kN/Clip = 2.92 kN/Tie
[ = 164 lbs/Clip = 656 lbs/Tie]
Actual Factor of Safety = Lateral Tie Clip Ultimate Load
÷ Seismic Design Load

= (2.92 kN/Tie) ÷ (0.84 kN/Tie)
[ = (656 lbs/Tie) ÷ (196 lbs/Tie)]
