Dr. Hatzinikolas is one of the foremost experts of masonry in Canada. He is a structural engineer who has received his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees through advanced research in masonry.
For 25 years, he served as Executive Director of the Canadian Masonry Research Institute (CMRI) providing advice and expertise to engineers, architects, building officials, government agencies, suppliers and contractors throughout the construction industry.
Currently, “Dr. Mike” (as he is known across Canada), is an adjunct professor of the Civil Engineering program at the University of Alberta. He is co-author of four textbooks in masonry design and has published over 120 research papers and technical manuals. The most recent textbook became available as of September 01, 2006. Dr. Mike has also prepared and published a large number of details for exterior wall assemblies from cavity and veneer walls to stucco and siding. He also has developed a computer program for designing load bearing masonry walls, masonry beams, slender walls and shear walls with openings. FERO also will make available for you a computer program that analyzes shear connected cavity and veneer walls.
